I have to migrate the nim master from an old p6-520 to a new p7-710.
I also want to make it jump from 6.1.8.1 to 7.1.2.2 , so i'll start from an already taken mksysb that resides on the nim master itself,
and i'll generate a bootable iso image from the mksysb file.
mkdvd -m /export/mksysb/mksysb-nim01_test-int -V rootvg -R -S
This will create a lv in rootvg and will store in this new fs (/mkcd/cd_images/) the iso image ,
that can be burned on a dvd (remember to append .iso extension) .
Now , let's start the new p710 with the dvd inserted in cdrom player and select the right boot device
to let the installation process to be performed from the mksysb source .
Now enter in SMS mode , select the DVD as the boot device and wait for the installation process to complete.
Just verify that the target disks are correct and start with the mksysb restore .. it goes very well and now i have my NIM01 lpar on a new P7-710 .
I verified that some filesets were in applied state , so i prefer to commit all before upgrading.
lslpp -l | grep -i applied : to verify
installp -c all : to commit all applied filesets
...to be continued
